Making school and community
connections is important to support student learning. Horace
Mann's Parent Involvement Program includes several ways for parents
and community members to get involved. Please call 973-3100 if
you are interested in being a part of our school community!

Parent Involvement Workers (PIW)
It is nationally recognized that when Parents are
involved, the child’s self-esteem grows and more often than not, grades
improve. Our Parent Resource Room is full of parents, both
Spanish-speaking and English-speaking, every day doing the following:
-
preparing classroom materials by teacher request
-
making take-home activities to reinforce classroom
lessons
-
attending workshops provided by Community
speakers/demonstrators
-
learning English to better communicate with staff and students
Workshops are available for parents who wish to tutor
students or assist in the classroom. Free child care is offered to
parents with younger children.

family events and school fundraisers throughout the school year. Two annual fundraisers are the Spell-a-thon and Math-a-thon. In
addition, the PTO sells popcorn/candy on Friday’s.

Wichita Rotary Club
Members of the Rotary help support our READING IS
FUNDAMENTAL (RIF) program. Horace Mann students receive new books to
take home four times each year, thanks to the Rotarians’ generosity.
Each RIF day, you can find Rotarians walking our halls, observing and
reading in classrooms and the library.

Volunteers
Volunteers come in all forms at Horace Mann. Our
students benefit from a variety of organized tutoring programs,
including Foster Grandparents, VISTA tutors, WSU Coops, and AmeriCorps
Members. All our volunteers give individual support to students in
need of a little additional help. Materials used are carefully
prepared at the District’s Instructional Support Center (ISC), according
to the District’s Benchmark reading, math and writing assessment test
scores. Horace Mann also has its “Angels” – community corporations
and individuals who provide emergency funding.
