Welcome
to January at Horace Mann! We are working
hard preparing for our state reading and math assessments in March
and April. Teachers have developed plans for these next ten weeks
to ensure students know the material and will be able to pass.
We are continuing the Horace
Mann Hawk Award. Students who do something special (helping
someone, working hard, following directions, getting a special
grade, etc.) may receive a Horace Mann Hawk Award coupon. Students
names are chosen on Fridays to be our “Hawk” of the week.
Free
and Reduced Lunch Forms: With these tough
economic times, please remember to fill out a Free and Reduced
application form from the office if you might qualify for some
support for breakfasts and lunches!
We
welcome Wichita Children’s Theatre once again to Horace Mann
with their Little Red Hen production for Kinder-1st at
9:30 and Miss Clara’s Classroom Calamity for 4th and 5th
grades at 1:40 on January 7! Kinder Concerts are scheduled
for Friday, January 8, at 9:15 for Kinder-1st grades!
Report Cards
will be sent home on Friday, January 8! This is a good time to
celebrate successes as well as look for areas to improve! We’ve had
great parent responses for helping students read 20 minutes daily!
Please join us January 11 for
PTO (5:30 p.m.) and Site Council (6:30 p.m.) in the
library. PTO will be planning our second semester activities
including getting room parents to help with Valentines Day and start
discussing a Spring Fiesta! Site Council will be looking at
the district’s budget information. Come on out and be a part of the
planning!
Our middle school
students continue to be active! Basketball starts this month. 6th
through 8th graders are studying to prepare for their
state reading and math goals. We appreciate middle schoolers
mentoring our younger grades in math and reading! YMCA MS After
School Program starts back up on January 11. Congratulations,
Jorge Mosqueda, for being our BOE 99% Award Winner from Horace Mann.
Let’s plan ahead for next
year! All incoming Kindergarten students MUST apply to attend
Horace Mann with a magnet application form by February 25 to
get into the magnet lottery!
Our Award Assemblies are
set for January 13 with grades 3-5 at 8:15, 1-2 at 9:15, Kinder at
